Families Can Enjoy Songkran in Phuket

Families who have planned their first visit to Phuket, Thailand, between April 13 and 15 may be in for a surprise. Based on the Buddhist calendar, these are the days in 2025 of Songkran or Thai New Year. Songkran is also known to many who have visited the country as the world's biggest water fight. Phuket is one place in Thailand that’s well-known for the exuberance of the Songkran celebrations. 

Many years ago, people used to bathe each other’s hands and arms in a cleansing ritual to celebrate starting the new year free of bad luck and sins. However, April is always the hottest time of year in Thailand, and over the years people started getting more liberal with the baths they were giving each other. Today, Songkran has turned into a massive water fight that's also become a major tourist attraction.

Phuket is a Major Songkran Destination

As a major tourist destination, Phuket is one of the prime locations for these epic, vibrant, and colorful Songkran Festival water fights. They can take place on every street on the island, but ground zero is along Bangla Road in Patong Beach. 

Many tourists book their vacations specifically to get in on all the wet fun of Songkran. Pickup trucks full of soaking-wet revelers armed with water guns, buckets and talcum powder slowly cruise the streets and douse every pedestrian they see.

Decorative fruit and vegetable carving is a skill you can use to wow your friends back home at your next barbecue or dinner party. All ages are welcome to join our fruit carving course. You'll learn how to create impressive works of art from various fruits and vegetables. The course is offered five days a week in the afternoons at Thavorn Beach Village Resort Activity Center and is taught by a professional chef.

Introduce your interested kids to the world of yoga by enrolling the whole family in our Basic Stretching Class held on Nakalay Beach every morning next to our activity center starting at 7:30 AM. You’ll learn how to properly stretch your muscles before exercising and learn some of the basic asanas, or poses in yoga.
